The DU Fresher's Packing Checklist (What to Bring, What to Buy Here)
Delhi has everything — you don't need to bring your whole room. Here's the exact list we share with outstation freshers on WhatsApp.
Documents (carry originals + 5 photocopies)
Class 10 + 12 mark sheets and passing certificates.
CUET score card + DU admission letter.
Aadhaar, PAN (if any), passport-size photos (10–15).
Migration certificate.
Domicile / caste certificate (if applicable).
Bank passbook or a cancelled cheque.
Clothes (Delhi is hot, cold, dusty and wet)
5–7 daily outfits + 2 sets of formals (for society interviews, events).
1 warm jacket + 1 cardigan / sweatshirt (Nov–Feb is proper cold).
1 raincoat / cheap umbrella (July–Aug monsoon).
Comfortable walking shoes + 1 pair of chappals + 1 semi-formal.
Innerwear + socks for 10 days minimum (laundry cycles are slower than home).
For the PG room
1 bedsheet, 1 pillow cover, 1 light blanket (most PGs provide, but a spare helps).
Padlock — good quality, for your cupboard.
Extension board with USB slots.
Water bottle (1L steel).
Small first-aid: paracetamol, ORS, band-aids, antacid, thermometer.
Buy after landing in Delhi (cheaper here)
Bucket, mug, hangers — Kamla Nagar / Sarojini markets.
Study lamp, whiteboard, stationery — local bookshops near your college.
Winter quilt (December onwards) — Sarojini / Karol Bagh.
Any daily-use appliances (kettle, iron).
Leave behind
More than 2 pairs of formal shoes.
Books your college library will have.
Heavy sports gear — join college / society equipment first.
Fragile decor — Delhi PG rooms are compact and shared.
